Melody or lyrics first?

In 2004 my son had built a website, a platform where worldwide events about global warming could be announced. We also had the idea to produce a song, which could be shared by all people who were interested in environmental issues. I had an order. ☺

There is no established rule in which sequence words and notes for a new music piece are written. I usually start working first on the melody. When the music is about 80% done I’d go over to write the lyrics. But this time it was just the opposite.

“And the sun says…”. For some days I ran around murmuring those words. I don’t know where they came from and I could not stop repeating them. At the end I decided to write the lyrics first. And it went incredibly fast. The sun was talking to the moon as they were looking at earth from above. ☺

And the Sun says to the Moon / In the morning of a day
The Earth is burning, they’re all göne / They sure all knew, what went wrong

We had to find out it was too early to start such a project about global warming in 2004. But the music still lives on with the voice of our lovely singer Beth Trollan.
