I assume most of you know this song by The Eagles. The ballad is about a man who stops at a hotel for the night: it’s the Hotel California. A mysterious woman greets him at the door. The woman is rich and fun loving, and her friends are beautiful. But at some point our guest notices how swanky the place is and wants to leave.
The woman informs him:
We are all just prisoners here, of our own device
Then the night-man joins her:
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!
As an entrepreneur you might be developing your own Hotel California. Weird things will happen for sure as you build a system with seemingly many rooms to enter, many options to choose from. And you might have the feeling that you can checkout any time you like.
It is not that easy… it might be that you can never leave.
So have a realistic exit strategy all along the way and don’t be a prisoner of your own making.
For those who still say that they enjoy their stay and won’t leave at any price: Welcome to the Hotel California
