The number of divorces is increasing in almost all countries. Hence couples in several countries started to sign a so called prenuptial agreement before they get married. With such an agreement the distribution of assets and income among the partners in case of a future divorce is determined.
The situation is not so different in company marriages. During the process of getting married everyone is excited. At that point no one is thinking about getting divorced. The difference in company marriages to social ones is that one party is usually bigger than the other one. Generally, the stronger party takes on the role of the purchaser. The party selling the company shares feels buoyant due to the coming marriage and so does not or cannot ask the acquirer: “What will happen if we decide to get divorced?” Even if this question is asked, mostly the answer is, “We’ll talk about it if we divorce. We’ll find a fair solution!”
Divorces don’t occur without a reason. The number of them being finalized in a fair way is questionable. Therefore, in our projects the parties need to discuss and agree on the conditions concerning a divorce as they are forming a partnership. Then they can continue to work together without having any worrying thoughts on separation.
Of course, you always have the option not to marry by considering what G. Marx has said: “Marriage is the chief cause of divorce”.
